Comparative adjectives are words that are used to compare people, places, things, or ideas. When we talk about comparison, it can be between two people, places, things, or ideas.  

Comparison is always based on similarities and differences. People, places, things, or ideas are compared on the basis of similarities and differences. When we talk about the word comparison, it can either be positive or negative. 

They allow us to make comparisons that are more vivid and descriptive than simply using a single adjective. For example, instead of saying something is “expensive,” you could say it is “more expensive” to give a more precise comparison.

How are they formed? 

They are usually formed by adding the suffix -er or using the words “more” or “less” before the adjective. For example, the comparative adjective for “hot” is “hotter,” and the comparative adjective for “expensive” is “more expensive.”

Adjectives with one-syllable

With one-syllable adjectives, add -er 

Single-syllable or one-syllable comparative adjectives are formed by adding the suffix “-er” to the end of a single-syllable adjective. For example, the comparative adjective for “hot” is “hotter,” and the comparative adjective for “cheap” is “cheaper.” Single-syllable comparative adjectives are used to compare people, places, things, or ideas on the basis of similarities and differences.

1. Tall – Taller

Adjectives with two- or more syllables are formed by adding the words “more” or “less” before the adjective.

This is usually done when the adjective has two or more syllables. For example, the comparative adjective for “beautiful” is “more beautiful,” and the comparative adjective for “difficult” is “less difficult. They can be used to make comparisons more vivid and descriptive.
