Parts of a Paragraph
A paragraph is a group of sentences about one main idea. It consists of three parts: the topic sentence, supporting sentences, and a concluding sentence.
Topic Sentence
A topic sentence is a sentence that indicates the main idea of a paragraph. It is usually the first sentence of the paragraph and provides a roadmap for the rest of the paragraph. A good topic sentence should be clear and concise, and it should be able to stand alone as a complete thought.
Supporting Sentences
Supporting sentences are the sentences that follow the topic sentence and provide additional information about the main idea. These sentences can include evidence, examples, and explanations to support the topic sentence. A good paragraph should have at least three supporting sentences, but more may be needed depending on the complexity of the topic.
Concluding Sentence
A concluding sentence is the last sentence of a paragraph. It summarizes the main idea of the paragraph and provides a sense of closure. A good concluding sentence should be clear and concise, and it should leave the reader with a strong impression.
